Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's military family lived in Louisiana when she was just nine years old. The singer won a talent competition with the song Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. By 15 Decker was living in Georgia. Decker had begun writing songs and making frequent trips to Nashville in search of any record deals. She was just 17 when she caught the ear of an independent label representative Big Yellow Dog Records who began shopping her songs to artists and labels. Decker's demos, which were listened to by Mercury Records president David Massey and then handed over to L.A. Reid of Island/Def Jam group-affiliated labels group L.A. Reid was able to agree Decker to an agreement. Jessie James released her debut album in August of 2009. The album was a self-titled album. Jessie James was reasonably successful and included Wanted an album track that made it to the Top 40 of the singles charts. Although Decker has always believed she was an artist from the country scene, her album was made and promoted with a pop audience in mind. Decker was adamant with the label to gain greater control over her music after two other singles fell. Her next release, Boys in the Summer was a more traditional album. The second album of Decker, dubbed by the title Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was shelved because Mercury was disappointed by the results of three of the singles on country radio charts.
